Sharing & Reuse

Sharing data can increase impact—but only when it is documented, licensed, and released responsibly. Use the checklist below as a practical readiness guide.

Documentation First

Write a short README/codebook explaining variables, collection context, and any processing steps needed to interpret the data.

Metadata & Keywords

Use clear titles, dates, locations, and subject terms so your dataset is discoverable in catalogs and search engines.

Licensing

Apply an appropriate license for reuse. Ensure third‑party or restricted materials are handled correctly before release.

Privacy & Sensitivity

Remove direct identifiers, consider re-identification risk, and protect sensitive groups. Some data should not be openly shared.

Next Steps

Pair data sharing with Open Access for publications, and with Open Science practices for reproducible workflows.
